Collegeville, Pa. – (9/1/20206) – Gwynedd Mercy University (0-1) opened their 2026 season with this evening's match at Ursinus College (1-0). The Red and Gold had trouble finding their groove in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-19) loss as the Bears emerged from a 6-6 stalemate for a 25-14 first-set win and dominated the second set to a 25-8 conclusion. The Griffins saved their best for last as a team-best .194 (11K-5E-31TA) hitting percentage kept them on Ursinus College's heels in a 25-19 third-set final.
Griffin Highlights
- Freshman pin hitter Carley Leonard (Upper Chichester, Pa.) led Gwynedd Mercy University at the net with six kills and two block assists producing a team-high 7.0 points. She also recorded an assist and a dig.
- Sophomore setter Macie Ferla (Mickleton, N.J.) provided a kill and six digs while recording 13 assists.
- Joining Leonard at the net, junior middle hitter Emma Hastings (Collingswood, N.J.) (2 block assists), senior pin hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) (1), and freshman middle blocker Ava Canton (Folsom, Pa.) (1) also assisted on blocks.
- Etter (10 digs) and sophomore defensive specialist P.J. Mendoza (Kennett Square, Pa.) (12) combined for 22 of the Griffins' 43 digs.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their early-season schedule on Friday, September 4, when they visit King's College (Pa.) (3:00 p.m.) for a tri-match with Penn State Schuylkill (5:00 p.m.).
