Red and Gold Loses Two to Penn State Brandywine

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/9/2026) - Gwynedd Mercy Universtity (8-17) hosted Penn State Brandywine (13-7) for a pair of games this afternoon at Frank O. Genuardi Legends Softball Field. The Nittany Lions won both ends of the twin bill, defeating the Griffins by a 6-1 final in game one and a 17-1, five-inning final in game two. A lead-off triple in the fourth inning from senior designated player Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) set junior second baseman Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) for the sacrifice fly (6-1) in game one.  In game two, the Red and Gold scored in their first at-bat thanks to a two-out single from Smith and a Cohen triple to right field (7-1).

Griffin Highlights - Game One
  • Gwynedd Mercy University was down 6-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. There, Smith tripled to right field before a Cohen sacrifice fly to center field plated a Griffin; 6-1.
  • Freshman shortstop Macey Harrold (West Deptford, N.J.) (1-for-3), Smith (1-for-3), junior catcher Maya Hellyer (Quakertown, Pa.) (1-for-3), and freshman center fielder Nya Brown (Whitehall, Pa.) (1-for-3) were responsible for the Griffin hits.
  • Sophomore first baseman Nylah Beauchamps (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior pinch hitter Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.) drew walks in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively.
Griffin Highlights - Game Two
  • Needing to get started early, Gwynedd Mercy University narrowed a 7-0 deficit with a two-out single to right from Smith and a subsequent triple to right from Cohen; 7-1.
  • The Griffins loaded the bases in the third inning with three consecutive one-out singles from Harrold, Smith, and Cohen, but a play at the plate and a grounder to third ended the Red and Gold threat.
  • Smith (2-for-3) and Cohen (2-for-2) both recorded multiple hits.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to Genuardi Field on Saturday, April 11, when they host St. Elizabeth University for a 12:00 p.m. Atlantic East Conference (AEC) and Senior Day doubleheader.
