Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/14/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (16-13, 7-6 AEC) combined timely hitting and dominant pitching to secure a 3–2 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory over Marymount University (16-14, 7-6 AEC) Friday afternoon at Genuardi Legends Field. Junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) led the offense with a standout 3-for-4 performance and a run-batted-in (RBI) in the third inning (2-0). Sophomore pitcher Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) was exceptional, tossing 8.1 innings while allowing just two unearned runs and scattering four hits. Hafto induced 15 groundouts and kept Marymount off balance all afternoon, carrying a shutout into the ninth inning.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins struck early with a decisive three-run third inning, generating all the offense they would need. Freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.) sparked the rally with a walk before junior outfielder Karl Wissmann doubled to put runners in scoring position. Noah Waldron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) delivered a sacrifice fly to open the scoring (1-0), followed by an RBI double from Vitale (2-0). Moments later, freshman outfielder, Charlie Neal (Mickelton, N.J.) added an RBI single to cap the inning and give Gwynedd Mercy a 3-0 advantage.
- Wissman added two hits, including a double, and Ruddell scored a run. The Griffins finished with 11 hits, consistently applying pressure throughout the lineup.
- Marymount mounted a late push in the ninth, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and a timely hit to cut the deficit to one. However, sophomore pitcher Chase Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa.) entered in relief and shut the door, earning the save (2) with a composed finish to preserve the victory.
- Defensively, Gwynedd Mercy turned three double plays, helping neutralize scoring threats and maintain control of the game. The Griffins also limited Marymount to just five hits, highlighting a complete effort on both sides of the ball.
