Griffins Put Up 17 In Game One Looking To Take Series Against Mighty Macs

Immaculata, Pa. - (3/28/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (10-9, 3-2 AEC), traveled to Immaculata University (5-12, 2-3 AEC) to wrap up the weekend series with the Mighty Macs. In game one, after a struggle in Friday's contest to produce runs, the Griffins' bats awoke and produced 17 runs on 13 hits. Senior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) went five-for-three on the day with a game-high five runs-batted-in (RBI) and a walk. In game two, looking to take the season series, Gwynedd Mercy was unfortunately unable to capitalize as they dropped game two 7-1, dropping the season series 2-1. Sophomore pitcher Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) got the nod for game two and struggled. Hafto allowed five earned runs, seven hits, three walks, and struck out two in 4.2 innings worked.

Griffin Highlights:

Game One:

  • After a scoreless first inning, junior outfielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) drove in the first run of the day with an RBI single to centerfield. A few batters later, DeCarlo drove in his first two runners of the day, scoring both Waldron and freshman catcher Jacob Ruddell (Warrington, Pa.). An error from the right fielder brought home the fourth run for the red and gold in the second inning.
  • Gwynedd Mercy kept the good times rolling the next inning, scoring three more runs thanks to an RBI single from junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) (5-1), an RBI fielder's choice from Waldron, and a wild pitch. The Griffins took an early 7-1 commanding lead.
  • With a 7-3 stangle on the Mighty Macs, Gwynedd Mercy erupted for a seven-run sixth inning. Senior outfielder Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) roped a double down the left field line, scoring freshman outfielder Charlie Neal (Mickleton, N.J.) (8-3). Ruddell knocked in his first run of the match with an RBI single, scoring junior first baseman Karl Wissmann (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (9-3). Junior infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) brought in a run (10-3) and a few batters later, DeCarlo brought home his final three runs in game one with a three RBI single to left center (13-3). Wissman capped off the inning with an RBI single to right field, allowing DeCarlo to cross home plate.
  • A bases-loaded walk from Vitale and mishaps from Immaculata University in the seventh, gave Gwynedd the eventual 17-3 final score.
  • With game one being a seven-inning game, Gwynedd Mercy decided to make game one a bullpen game. Sophomore pitcher Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) started the contest, going 2.2 innings, allowing one earned run, on four hits, four walks, and striking out two, and being credited with the win (3-1). Following Ganey was freshman pitcher Landon Glovas (Nazareth, Pa.), senior pitcher Zachary Freas (Mickleton, N.J.), and sophomore pitcher Kevin King (Ridley, Pa.), who did their job holding Immaculata at bay.

Game Two:

  • The Griffins' loan run came in the fifth inning with Neal's RBI single to center field, driving in sophomore infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) (6-1).
  • Gwynedd Mercy managed eight hits in the contest, with DeCarlo, Neal, and Wissmann all recording multi-hit games.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field on Tuesday, March 31, when the team welcomes Cairn University, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
