Little River, S.C. - (3/11/2026) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-4) came away from their third day at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with another split as a 6-1 win over New Jersey City University (NJCU) was followed by a tight 2-1 loss to Thiel College. The Griffins spread 11 hits across the lineup versus the Gothic Knights; freshman second baseman
Macey Harrold (West Deptford, N.J.) (2-for-3), junior third baseman
Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) (2-for-3), freshman designated player
Ashlyn Merz (Bensalem, Pa.) (2-for-4), and junior first baseman
Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.) (2-for-3) each recorded two hits, but it was freshman center fielder
Nya Brown (Whitehall, Pa.) that made the most noise with her first collegiate home run in the top of the fifth inning (3-0). Merz (2-for-3) was the only Griffin with multiple hits versus the Bobcats and she knocked in their lone run with a follow-up, two-out single through the left side in the fourth (1-1). Freshmen,
Mckenzie Price (Hatfield, Pa.) (1-1) and
Rylie O'Toole (Southampton, Pa.) (0-2) both looked good in the circle; the former held NJCU to an unearned run on six hits and a walk, while the latter held Thiel College to one earned run, on five hits and two walks.
Griffin Highlights vs. NJCU
- Harrold singled through the left side in the top of the first inning. A fielder's choice and a Cohen triple to center field brought home the first Gwynedd Mercy University run; 1-0.
- Another triple helped score another Red and Gold run in the third inning as Harrold raced to the third bag after a blast to left center and scampered home on a sacrifice fly from senior shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.); 2-0.
- Brown led off the fifth with her homer to right field. Afterwards, a Gothic Knight error, a walk, a single from Smith (4-0) and a Merz triple to left center plated two more; 6-0.
- Price earned her first collegiate win with three strikeouts over seven innings of "scoreless" work.
Griffin Highlights vs. Thiel College
- Down a run after the first inning (1-0), Gwynedd Mercy University evened the score in the fourth inning with a two-out double to left field from Cohen and a Merz single through the left side; 1-1
- Merz (2-for-3) was the only Griffin - and player - with multiple hits in the contest.
- O'Toole struck out four in the loss.
Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their stay at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, with games versus Lycoming College (9:00 a.m., Field #3) and Vermont State University Castleton (1:00 p.m., Field #9).
