Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) force overtime with another clutch three with just two second remaining; 66-66 (0:02). The Red and Gold ended it early in overtime, scoring the first nine point of the period behind their senior captains
Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.). Snead led four Griffins in double figures with a game-high 24 points; Johnson (17 points), graduate guard
Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) (15), and Sayed (11) were the others.
Griffin Highlights
- Snead and Harris piloted Gwynedd Mercy University through a troubling first half as offensive rebounds allowed Immaculata University to take a 40-36 lead to the locker rooms. Snead scored a dozen (12) points in the opening period, while Harris knocked down a pair of key threes (14:34, 10:18).
- The Griffins got contributions from nearly the whole roster in the second-half effort; Snead led with six points, Johnson was everywhere with five points, five rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal, while Sayed chipped in two points, three rebounds, and a steal before sinking the stunner at the end of regulation.
- The Red and Gold got to the line; their 10-of-15 (.667) first half and 9-of-11 (.818) overtime were off-set by a sub-par second half (7-of-12, .583) in a 26-of-38 (.684) performance from the charity stripe.
- Snead's 10th double-digit game of the season came with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
- Johnson's 17 points came with a team-high 12 rebounds; it was his third double-double of the season and his second in as many games. He also recorded five assists, two blocks, and four steals.
- Harris finished 3-of-5 (.600) from long range and he hit all four (4-of-4, 1.000) of his free throws ( 4-of-4 (1.000). He also grabbed three rebounds and made three steals.
- In addition to his 11 points, Sayed recorded six rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals.
