Inglisa Wins Initial AEC Pitcher of the Week Award, DeCarlo Crushes for Honor Roll Recognition

AEC Baseball Weekly Report (2/23/2026): Michael Inglisa (Pitcher of the Week), Jimmy DeCarlo (Honor Roll)
Lancaster, Pa. – (2/23/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior Michael Inglisa (Delran, N.J.) went a strong six innings - allowing two runs on six hits and three walks – and struck out seven in the Griffins' 5-2 game-one win over Notre Dame of Maryland University. The Red and Gold completed the sweep with a 15-3, seven-inning, win in game two; senior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) was 1-for-4 with two runs and three runs-batted-in (RBI) in the contest. He finished the twin bill 3-for-8 with two runs and four RBI as he knocked in a run with his second single of game one. For their efforts, Inglisa was recognized as the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while DeCarlo attracted a Weekly Honor Roll recognition.

Opposite Inglisa, graduate first baseman Anthony Farmakides (Falls Church, Va.) was named the AEC Baseball Player of the Week. In addition to DeCarlo, the AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll included Marymount University sophomore pitcher Jay Wandell (Bethesda, Md.) as well as Saint Elizabeth University freshman pitcher John Santomassino (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior pitcher/first baseman Trevor Policastro (Bayville, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (2-0) opened the 2026 season in emphatic fashion on Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Notre Dame of Maryland University (0-2) at Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field with wins of 5–2 in the opener and 15–3 (7) in game two. The Griffins showcased timely hitting, disciplined pitching, and relentless pressure on the base paths, improving to 2–0 on the young season. DeCarlo singled the final Griffin run home in a three-run seventh inning.

Following Inglisa's game-one win, sophomore pitcher Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) earned the victory (1-0) by tying his career-high six strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. DeCarlo knocked runs with a fielder's choice in the second inning, a double down the left field line in the fourth inning, and a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. A fourth Griffin run scored off his bat in the fifth inning as junior center fielder Noah Waldron (Collingswood, N.J.) crossed the plate on a throwing error by the Gator third baseman.

With inclement weather postponing Gwynedd Mercy University's Tuesday (Feb. 24) contest at Rutgers-Camden, the Griffins are scheduled to return to Genuardi Legends Baseball Field on Friday, February 27, when they host Penn State Hazleton for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
