Julian Hyden '17 to his staff, "Julian is one of the best players to ever wear a Gwynedd Mercy University uniform. He was with me for four years and I feel we both put together "Hall of Fame"-level careers. To have him on the sideline with me in this first year was a opportunity that could not be passed up." A first-time coach, Hyden played four seasons (2012-2016) alongside Artis on the Gwynedd Mercy University men's basketball team. The duo helped lead the Griffins to a 2015-2016 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship and subsequent National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament appearance.
"It feels good to be back at a place that I once called my home away from home. I am looking forward to being on the sideline and helping Coach Artis develop the next generation of Griffins." Hyden led the 2015-2016 Griffins in scoring (19.0 points/game), rebounding (8.4 rebounds/game), three-pointers made (53), and steals (44) while receiving All-CSAC First Team, All-City of Basketball Love First Team, D3Hoops.com All-Atlantic Region Second Team, and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team honors.
