Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (1/6/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University Head Men's Basketball Coach Darnell "Speedy" Artis '16 is pleased to officially welcome Julian Hyden '17 to his staff, "Julian is one of the best players to ever wear a Gwynedd Mercy University uniform. He was with me for four years and I feel we both put together "Hall of Fame"-level careers. To have him on the sideline with me in this first year was a opportunity that could not be passed up." A first-time coach, Hyden played four seasons (2012-2016) alongside Artis on the Gwynedd Mercy University men's basketball team. The duo helped lead the Griffins to a 2015-2016 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship and subsequent National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament appearance.

Hyden led the 2015-2016 Griffins in scoring (19.0 points/game), rebounding (8.4 rebounds/game), three-pointers made (53), and steals (44) while receiving All-CSAC First Team, All-City of Basketball Love First Team, D3Hoops.com All-Atlantic Region Second Team, and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team honors. Currently (As of Oct 28, 2025), Hyden ranks among the Gwynedd Mercy University All-Time, Top-25 in points (16^th, 1,046), points per game (12^th, 12.3 PPG), field goals made (18^th, 348), field goal attempts (18^th, 731), three-pointers made (14^th, 103), three-point attempts (15^th, 276), three-point percentage (T8^th, .373), free throws made (10^th, 247), free throw attempts (13^th, 334), free throw percentage (20^th, .740), rebounds (14^th, 477), rebounds per game (10^th, 5.6 RPG), assists (24^th, 142), assists per game (24^th, 1.7 APG), blocks (11^th, 54), blocks per game (T9^th, 0.6 BPG), steals (T16^th, 97), and steals per game (T19^th, 1.1 SPG). After his 1,000-plus point career at Gwynedd Mercy University, Hyden went on to play professionally in Serbia and China.
 
Hyden graduated from Gwynedd Mercy University in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. He earned his master's degree in counseling psychology from Eastern University in 2024 and has since served as a lead clinician at Bensalem High School.
