Lancaster, Pa. – (1/5/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior guard
D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) made his third appearance on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Basketball Weekly Report with his second selection to the league's Honor Roll. Johnson averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.5 blocks, and 2.5 steals per game in an 0-2 week that included 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a block, and five steals in a 92-79 Consolation loss to host, DeSales University (Dec. 29) at the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament.
Johnson was joined on the AEC Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll by fifth-year guard Immaculata University Dylan Crews (Philadelphia, Pa.). Pratt Institute junior forward Trey Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz.) was named the AEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Marymount University junior center C.J. Highsmith (Richmond, Va.) was named the AEC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
A last-possession basket for McDaniel College (7-2) was the conclusion of Sunday's (Dec. 28) Senavitis Memorial Opening Round contest as Gwynedd Mercy University (7-4) found themselves on the short end of a 61-60 (0:12) final. Johnson finished the affair with nine points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Unfortunately, 2025 ended on a sour note for the Red and Gold, who were the only winless team at tournament following a 92-79 Consolation loss to the hosting Bulldogs (5-6). Despite the outcome, four Griffins finished in double figures; junior guard
Mazen Sayed ( Chichester, Pa.) came off the bench to lead the group with 18. Johnson supported his 11 points with seven rebounds, four assists, a block, and five steals.
Gwynedd Mercy University will look to get back on track in the New Year as they resume their schedule on Wednesday, January 7, with an AEC season opener at Pratt Institute. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
