Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/8/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy (1-3) delivered its most complete performance of the young season Monday night, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Penn State Brandywine (1-2). The Griffins set the tone early, dominating possession and creating chance after chance. Their persistence paid off in the 13th minute (13:18) when senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) buried a setup from sophomore midfielder Adam Leal (Jessup, Md.), giving Gwynedd Mercy the early 1-0 lead. Just over 20 minutes later (36:33), the lead doubled. Off a well-placed restart, junior forward Devario Gboho (Philadelphia, Pa.) connected at the back post on a service from junior defender Axel Mayren (Atlantic City, N.J.). Mayren earned his first collegiate career multi-point game when freshman defenseman Connor Piffath (Forest Hill, Md.) headed home another long serve from Mayren, pushing the advantage to 3-0 at the break (44:04). Any hopes of a Brandywine comeback were quickly dashed after intermission. In the 50th minute (50:28), senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) calmly converted a penalty kick to put the game out of reach at 4-0. Senior goalkeeper Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) made five saves to secure the win (1-0).
Griffin Highlights:
- The stats reflected the Griffins' control: Gwynedd Mercy fired 30 shots (16 on target) compared to just 10 from Brandywine, while also earning eight corners.
- The play on the pitch was chippy as the teams combined for 23 fouls throughout the contest, and seven yellow cards were dished out between them.
