Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/1-/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy (1-4) showed plenty of fight on Wednesday afternoon, opening the scoring in front of their home crowd at the Athletic Complex before eventually falling 7-1 to Lancaster Bible College (2-1-).
The Griffins gave their supporters something to cheer about early. In just the fourth minute (4:23), senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) buried a finish off a long throw-in from sophomore defenseman Dominic Lodise (Bensalem, Pa.), putting Gwynedd Mercy ahead 1-0. The goal was Clyde's first of the season and marked the Griffins' first lead of the year, highlighting their quick start and attacking intent.
Lancaster Bible responded with three goals in quick succession, but Gwynedd Mercy refused to back down. The Griffins created 18 total shots - 10 of them on target - showing a commitment to press forward and test the visitors' back line. Senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) and freshman defenseman Connor Piffath (Forrest Hill, Md.) led the attack with multiple chances each, while Clyde continued to be a spark in the midfield.
Griffin Highlights:
- Freshman goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) stood tall despite relentless pressure, recording eight saves to keep the contest within reach deep into the second half. His command of the box and resilience under fire gave the Griffins stability as the Chargers' attack pushed forward.
- The red and gold were outshot 30-18 throughout the contest, with both Kehan and Piffath providing four shots apiece.
Gwynedd Mercy University players will look to build on the positives - an early lead, increased shot volume, and a hard-working midfield - as they continue their non-conference slate against Ursinus College on Friday, September 12, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
