Phoenixville, Pa. - (9/20/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-5) put together a commanding performance on the road Saturday, defeating the University of Valley Forge (2-5-1) 5-1 at The Patriot Field.
Senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) got the Griffins rolling just before halftime, breaking through in the 40th minute (40:01) off a setup from freshman forward Jackson Stuetz (Willow Grove, Pa.). That goal opened the floodgates for Gwynedd Mercy, who poured in four more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore defenseman Andrew Leibig (Bensalem, Pa.) doubled the lead early in the second half with a well-placed finish in the 52nd minute (52:24), followed by a strike from senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) in the 68th (68:35). Freshman forward Mava Mboko Celestin (Erie, Pa.) added his name to the scoresheet in the 75th minute with his first collegiate goal (75:26), capping off a relentless offensive stretch. Freshman midfielder Colin Jastremski (Cape May Courthouse, N.J.) closed the day with a late goal in stoppage time (90:00), sealing a five-goal performance for the Griffins.
Valley Forge managed to pull one back in the 87th minute (87:08), but senior goalkeeper Andrew Roberto (Churchville, Pa.) and the Gwynedd Mercy back line stayed composed. Roberto finished with four saves in his first career start with the Griffins (1-0).
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy's stout defense kept the Highlanders at bay the entire 90 minutes, holding Valley Forge to seven shots compared to the red and gold's 19.
- It was a balanced effort for Gwynedd Mercy, with five different players scoring and six different players recording shots on goal.
- The Griffins also dominated on set pieces, earning six corner kicks to Valley Forge's four.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Tuesday, September 23, as the team travels to McDaniel College for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
