Griffins Cruise Past Nittany Lions

Reading, Pa. - (9/29/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-5) delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Penn State Berks (1-9) on Monday evening.

The Griffins struck first just before halftime when senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) calmly converted a penalty kick in the 44th minute (44:45) to give the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. That momentum carried into the second half, where the Griffins' attack broke open the game.

In the 56th minute (56:18), senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) doubled the lead (2-0), finishing off a setup from junior forward Devario Gboho (Philadelphia, Pa.). Gwynedd Mercy continued to press forward, freshman defender Connor Piffath (Forest Hill, Md.) added insurance in the 83rd minute (83:46) with a well-taken strike to make it 3-0. Just two minutes later (85:50), the Griffins capitalized again, this time on a team goal, effectively sealing the outcome.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Despite being outshot 20-15, Gwynedd Mercy highlighted its efficiency on goal, placing 10 shots on target compared to Berks' 10.
  • Senior goalkeeper Andrew Roberto (Churchville, Pa.) stood tall with nine saves, backstopping a disciplined defensive effort, earning the win (2-0).
  • Gwynedd Mercy's finished with nine corner opportunities compared to the Nittany Lions' seven.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, October 1, as the team hosts Penn State Schuylkill for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
