Gwynedd Mercy Makes History With 11 Tallies In Shutout Victory Over Penn State Schuylkill

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/1/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-5) distributed its most commanding performance of the season on Wednesday afternoon, storming past Penn State Schuylkill (1-8) with an emphatic 11-0 shutout victory. The Griffins made history, as the team finished with the most goals scored in a single contest in program history passing the 2012 team when they scored eight goals against the University of Valley Forge (Oct. 13, 2012)

From the opening whistle, the Griffins controlled the pace of play, outshooting the visitors 45-5 and earning nine corner kicks to just one for Schuylkill. Gwynedd Mercy built a 4-0 halftime lead, then turned up the pressure in the second half, adding seven more goals to secure the win.

Senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) led the way offensively, recording a hat trick with three goals, including tallies in both halves (12:54, 56:21, 58:37). Junior forward Devario Gboho (Philadelphia, Pa.) (33:32, 76:29)  and freshman defenseman Connor Piffath (Forest Hill, Md.) (32:55, 64:08) each struck twice, while sophomore midfielder Ryan Burns (Jenkintown, Pa.) (35:46), senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) (53:46), freshman forward Mava Mboko Celestin (Erie, Pa.) (69:24), and freshman midfielder McCarthy Gomes (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) (84:52) all added goals of their own. Burns' goal was the first of his collegiate career. The attack was unselfish, with 11 different players registering either a goal or an assist. Gomes and junior forward Thomas Watkins (Morrisville, Pa.) both notched a pair of assists to fuel the offensive outburst.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Defensively, the Griffins were airtight, holding Schuylkill to a single shot on goal. Senior goalkeepers Andrew Roberto (Churchville, Pa.), Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) and freshman goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) combined for the shutout, with Roberto making the team's lone save and earning the win (3-0).
  • With Gwynedd Mercy's 45 shots in 90 minutes of play, they also set a new program record of shots in a match.
