Etter Headlines Red and Gold Effort at Penn State Brandywine

Media, Pa - (9/17/2025) - Junior outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) matched her career-high and scored all five of her aces for the season en route to an 18.5-point (13 kills, 5 aces, 1 block assist) night, but Gwynedd Mercy University (3-3) won their only point of a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23) final at Penn State Brandywine (4-4) in the second set; 25-23. Etter's four consecutive aces were the exclamation point on a 6-0 run that sparked the Griffins from a 5-5 stalemate to a 25-23 win. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions responded to the defeat with succeeding sets scores of 25-15 and 25-23.  

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University hit their best in the second-set win; .171 (10K-4E-35TA).
  • After Etter's string of aces, the Griffins' stayed ahead of Penn State Brandywine until the end of the frame. In the end, it required a kill from senior middle hitter Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) (23-22), an ace from sophomore libero Marley Robbins (Medford, N.J.) (24-22), and a Etter finish (25-23).
  • In addition to Etter, freshman setter Brynn Crooks (Philadelphia, Pa.) targeted Pugh (8 kills) and sophomore middle hitter Emma Hastings (Collingswood, N.J.) (7). Crooks finished with three kills, 30 assists, an ace, and nine digs.
  • Pugh added four assists, a solo block, a block assist, and seven digs to her eight kills.
  • Hastings added a block assist to her successful spikes.
  • Sophomore defensive specialist Annalise Kuppel (Estell Manor, N.J.) (13 digs) and freshman defensive specialist P.J. Mendoza (Kennett Square, Pa.) (11) combined for 34 digs with double-digit individual totals.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Friday, September 19, when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology for a 6:00 p.m. match.
