Hughes' 100th Point Highlights Loss to AEC Rival, Mighty Macs

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/9/2025) - Senior attack Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.) scored the first goal of Richie Hughes 100th Career Point (4/9/2025)the game with 7:14 remaining in the first quarter; 1-0. He tied it up at 2-2 with 5:05 remaining in the frame and helped keep Gwynedd Mercy University (5-7, 1-1) within two scores of Immaculata University (9-5, 2-0) heading to halftime as he found senior attack Dominic Romania (Phoenixville, Pa.) with 0:46 seconds remaining for the 100th point of his collegiate career; 8-6. Despite the milestone effort, the Mighty Macs controlled the momentum in the second half as they used a 3-0 third quarter to spur them to a 13-7 decision. Hughes was the only Griffin to record multiple points; he finished with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and 10 shots. Senior goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) recorded 17 saves, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers in the loss (5-7).

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University was successful on 17-of-28 clears attempts. They won 5-of-22 (.227) face-offs and recovered 16 ground balls.
  • The Griffins were 1-of-5 on man-up opportunities with their only successful extra player goal coming on Romania's score just before intermission.
  • In addition to Hughes, junior attack Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) was active on offense with one goal (4-3, 11:11, 2QTR) on 11 shots, and three ground balls.
  • Senior midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) also contributed a goal (11-7, 9:00, 4QTR). He took seven shots and recovered two ground balls.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Saturday, April 12, when they visit Neumann University for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
