Glenside, Pa. - (11/12/2025) – Looking for a second straight Battle of 309 victory, Gwynedd Mercy University (2-1), traveled to Arcadia University (2-0), confronting their neighbor rivals. Sophomore guard Bruce Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) poured in a game and career-high 23 points, leading a sharp-shooting Gwynedd Mercy offense through a dominant first half, but Arcadia countered with a powerful second-half surge as the Griffins fell 75-55 in a high-energy non-conference matchup.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins controlled the early tempo behind an efficient offensive rhythm, shooting 12-for-27 (44.4%) from the field in the opening half and building multiple leads before taking a 30-29 advantage into the break. Smith scored from all three levels, finishing 10-of-19 (53%) from the floor and 3-of-6 (50%) from deep, while also providing key plays in transition that kept Arcadia on its heels.
- Junior guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) delivered a strong spark off the bench with ten points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals, including a timely first-half three-pointer that cut into Arcadia's early run. Junior forward M.J. Branker Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) produced one of the team's most complete performances, tallying six points, seven rebounds, and steady defensive positioning in the paint.
- Gwynedd Mercy's interior presence showed throughout, as the team totaled 26 points in the paint and held its own on the boards with 30 total rebounds. The Griffins forced 13 turnovers and produced 11 points off those takeaways.
