Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (11/10/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-0) had little trouble finding their second win of the season as a 22-4 opening run gave the Griffins an easy path to an 81-61 victory in tonight's home opener versus St. Joseph's University Brooklyn (0-1). Senior guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) scored the Red and Gold's first nine points, bringing the crowd to their feet and inspiring his teammates to get involved to the tune of a 42-18 first-half spread. In the end, sophomore guard Bruce Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) led four Griffins in double figures with 18 points; Johnson (11 points), graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) (12), and junior guard Zaiyin Keys (Chichester, Pa.) (13) were the others.

• Gwynedd Mercy University was electric off the tip with Johnson's opening furry spurring the Griffins for their 22-4 (12:48) start.
• The Griffins expanded their lead to as many as 29 points, 42-13 (2:17), in the first half and took a 24-point edge, 42-18 (0:23), to the locker room thanks to an 18-of-36 (.500) performance from the floor and 13 steals.
• In the second half, the difference neared 40 points before the Red and Gold bench emptied; 59-20 (14:37). 
• Gwynedd Mercy University evenly distributed 36 rebounds, 17 assists, and 18 steals; Johnson and junior guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) grabbed four rebounds apiece, the former and Harris made five steals apiece, while the latter and senior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) handed out four assists apiece.
