Rough Knight, Griffins Suffer AEC Loss at Neumann University

Aston, Pa. - (1/25/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (15-3, 3-2) trailed Neumann University (14-5, 5-1) for the duration of this evening's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) affair as the Griffins suffered their second league loss by falling behind by as many as 21 points, 33-12 (8:10), and rallying for a 45-31 halftime spread, before a 85-69 Knight final. Graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) led the Red and Gold with 28 points; he was 9-of-11 (.818) from the floor including five threes (5-of-7, .714), and he hit 5-of-6 (.833) from the free throw line while grabbing three rebounds and making an assist. Senior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the only other Griffin in double figures. He finished with 16 points while leading Gwynedd Mercy University in rebounds (7), blocks (2), and steals (2).

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University had trouble finding their shot in the first half as a 4-of-17 (.235) effort from long range and a 3-of-8 (.375) free throw performance allowed Neumann University to separate themselves for the 14-point halftime edge.
  • In the second half, the Knights kept their distance with solid numbers from the floor (12-of-25, .480), three-point range (4-of-9, .444), and the free throw line (12-of-15, .800).
  • Beyond Summers and Marable, the Griffins found production from junior guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) and sophomore forward Travon Mack (Coatesville, Pa.). The former finished with nine points, a rebound, an assist, and two steals, while the latter totaled eight points, two rebounds, and a block.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Tuesday, January 28, when they visit league newcomer, Pratt Institute for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
