Sea Gulls Give Griffins Second Straight Loss

Salisbury, Md. - (1/18/2025) - After 13 straight wins, Gwynedd Mercy University (13-2) lost their second straight decision with today's 81-54 loss at Salisbury University (13-5). The Sea Gulls built on a 35-25 halftime advantage with a 46-29 second-half spread that saw the Griffin offense stall behind 15 turnovers, a 37.5% (21-of-56) performance from the field, and just four chances at the free throw line (3-of-4, .750); sophomore guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) hit all three of those free throws while coming off the Red and Gold bench for a team-high 15 points.

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University let Salisbury University slip away for a 16-2 (13:09) lead before evening the score at 25-25 (4:11) on a three-point basket from graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.).
  • Unfortunately, the Griffins did not score again in the half as the Sea Gulls took a 35-25 lead to the locker rooms.
  • After intermission, Salisbury University extended their lead to as many as 29 points, 76-47 (3:33), before Gwynedd Mercy University trimmed spread to 27-point conclusion; 81-54 (0:32).
  • Sayed scored his career-high 15 points with his three free throws and a 5-of-8 (.625) shooting performance that included a pair of threes (2-of-4, .500). He also recorded seven rebounds and an assist.
  • Harris finished with 14 points. He was 4-of-6 (.667) from long range while grabbing a rebound and making an assist.
  • Graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) was the only other Griffin to score in double figures; he recorded 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and an assist.
Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their non-conference schedule on Monday, January 20, when they host Mount Aloysius College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
