Gwynedd Mercy Gets Back On Track with Win over Mount Aloysius

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/20/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (14-2) put a stop to their recent two-game skid with this evening's decisive 86-48 victory over Mount Aloysius College (5-11). The Griffin defense turned the Mounties over 13 times in the first half, allowing them to grab an early 12-2 (15:34) advantage and hold on for a 39-27 (0:34) halftime lead. After intermission, the outcome was never in question as the Red and Gold ensured victory with a 52.9% (18-of-34) shooting performance from the field that included eight threes (8-of-17, .471) and was supported with a perfect 3-of-3 (1.000) showing at the free throw line. Graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) led four Griffins in double figures with 18 points; he also grabbed seven rebounds, while making two assists and a steal.

Griffin Highlights
  • The win was Gwynedd Mercy University's seventh by 30 points or more this season. 
  • The Griffins scored 38 points in the paint, 34 off Mount Aloysius College turnovers, and 22 on second chances. 
  • Summers was 6-of-11 (.545) from the field with a pair (2-of-5, .400) of threes. He also hit all four (4-of-4, 1.000) of his free throws.
  • Senior guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with 16 points, a rebound, and two assists.
  • Senior forward Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.) recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and a steal.
  • Graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) came off the Red and Gold bench for 11 points and six rebounds.
  • Including Harris, six different Griffin reserves contributed to 33 bench points.
Gwynedd Mercy University resumes their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Wednesday, January 22, when they visit Centenary University (N.J.) for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
