Bryn Athyn, Pa. - (9/7/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) needed only three sets to take care of Bryn Athyn College in today's women's volleyball match as the Griffins used nine aces, seven solo blocks, and a .147 (31K-16E-102TA) hitting percentage to defeat the Lions by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19) score. Sophomore outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) headlined the offense with 14 kills, while sophomore defensive specialist Danika Lewis (Coopersburg, Pa.) and freshman defensive specialist Marley Robbins (Medford, N.J.) helped with three aces apiece. The Red and Gold's impressive blocking effort was led by three solo denials from freshman middle blocker/hitter Emma Hastings (Collingswood, N.J.).

Griffins Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University stayed a step ahead of Bryn Athyn College throughout the first set. In the second, a mid-set run freed the Griffins from a 15-15 stalemate for their 25-21 win. And in the third, it was Robbins work on the serve that separated the Red and Gold for a their 25-19 clincher.
• The Griffins hit their best in the third set of the match; .200 (11K-5E-30TA).
• Etter totaled 14.0 points with her 14 kills coming on a team-best .323 (14K-4E-31TA) hitting percentage. She also recorded two assists and eight digs.
• Fifth-year outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) also totaled double-digit points with nine kills and two solo blocks. She also made two assists and five digs.
• Junior setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) supplied two kills, 22 assists, an ace, and six digs.
• Junior libero Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) was versatile with five kills, four assists, an ace, a solo block, and a team-high 12 digs.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, September 11, when they host Albright College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
