Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/11/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-2) scored a 25-20 win in the opening set, but after a 25-17 loss the Griffins used scores of 25-19 and 25-22 to send Albright College (4-2) home empty handed; 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22). Fifth-year outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) (13.0 points; 13 kills) and sophomore outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) (11.0, 11 kills) combined for 24.0 points on 24 combined kills, while junior setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) directed play with 36 assists and five digs.

Griffin Highlights

• Neither side performed well on the serve as Gwynedd Mercy University (16 service errors) and Albright College (15) combined for 31 service errors.
• The Griffins used a better hitting percentage (.179; 41K-20E-117TA), three aces, and a shared block between Gaston and freshman middle blocker Emma Hastings (Collingswood, N.J.).
• The Red and Gold hit over .300 in both the first (.321; 10K-1E-28TA) and third (.300; 10K-4E-20TA) sets.
• Purnell added an assist and 10 digs to her 13 kills. Etter provided eight digs in addition to her 11 kills.
• Junior middle hitter Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with eight kills, an assist, and a team-high 16 digs.
