Langhorne, Pa. - (9/4/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-0-1) hit the road for the first time in 2024 traveling to Cairn University (0-0-1). A beautiful 20-yard shot from sophomore forward Demmi Fox (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) was perfectly placed just over the Highlanders goalkeeper's hands and put the Griffins up 1-0 (5:59) early in the first quarter. Going into the second half Cairn scored just seven minutes into the half (52:37), but the Red and Gold answered back immediately. Just over two and a half minutes later (55:10), Gwynedd Mercy was rewarded a corner kick allowing sophomore midfielder Bridget Cannon (Bensalem, Pa.) to place a perfect ball in the middle of the box where senior forward captain Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) to get a header on the ball and find the back of the net. The Highlanders answered right back a minute later (56:10) and the game would end in a 2-2 draw.
- With Fox and Beinlich's goals in the contest, both forwards are off to a quick start in 2024 both now tallying three goals each in just two games.
- Cannon's assist on Beinlich's goal gave Bridget her first point in her sophomore season.
- Gwynedd Mercy was outshot 18-10 but had a 6-4 corner opportunity advantage.
- Junior goalkeeper Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) started all 90 minutes for the Griffins and had to be sharp as she recorded a season-high six saves in the draw (1-0-1).
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex to battle the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday, September 7 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
