Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/25/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (8-4) got revenge for a pair of losses from 2023 as they took down Cedar Crest College (4-9) by a 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20) final in tonight's home match. The Griffins improved upon a 25-21 first-set win with a 25-16 victory in the second set. Following a third-set setback, 25-19, the Red and Gold recover with a 25-20 conclusion. Fifth-year outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) scored a team-high 20.5 points with 18 kills, an ace, a solo block, and a block assist, while junior setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) hoisted 38 assists on top of two kills and a pair of block assists.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University scored 11 kills in each set and finished with a .178 (44K-20E-135TA) hitting percentage.
• The Griffins spotted six aces and combined for seven blocks (2 solo blocks, 10 block assists).
• Purnell paired her points with seven digs. Gaston made nine digs as well.
• Sophomore outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersberg, Pa.) swung for 13 kills on a team-best .310 (13K-4E-29TA) hitting percentage. She also recorded an assist, an ace, a solo block, a block assist, and a team-high 13 digs.
• Junior defensive specialist Amanda Lopez (Houston, Texas) recorded four of the Griffins' six aces.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Saturday, September 28, to host Penn State Brandywine (11:00 a.m.) and Notre Dame of Maryland University (3:00 p.m.) in tri-match play.
