Bryn Athyn, Pa. - (9/13/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-1-2) traveled to Bryn Athyn College (2-3) where the Griffins suffered their first loss of the season after a 2-1 final. Gwynedd Mercy struggled mightily in the first half to keep the ball in the offensive zone, as the red and gold only totaled two shots in the first 45 minutes of play. With a little over 15 minutes to play, the Griffins were fouled inside the box leading to a penalty kick. Taking the kick was PK specialist sophomore midfielder Bridget Cannon (Bensalem, Pa.) who scored (73:57) tying the game at one apiece. This was Cannon's second game in a row with a penalty kick goal. Unfortunately, Bryn Athyn would not go away quietly and would net their second of the match at 81:22 and walking away with the 2-1 victory.
Griffins Highlights:
- After being outshot 12-2 in the first half, Gwynedd Mercy turned up their pace and recorded eight shots in the second half but were still outshot 23-10.
- Junior goalkeeper Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) made her fourth start in net for the Griffins and finished with a season-high 12 saves in the loss (1-1-2).
- Joining Cannon in the shot department was, freshman defenseman Paige Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1), sophomore defenseman Jessica Parker (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1), junior forward Natalie Morris (Boyertown, Pa.) (3), freshman defenseman Samantha Winco (Chalfont, Pa.) (2), and senior forward captain Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) (1).
