Red and Gold Celebrates Senior Day with AEC Win over Knights

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/20/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-7, 4-1) recognized seven seniors; attack Nick Flamma (Sewell, N.J.), faceoff/midfielder Shane Langefeld (Hainesport, N.J.), defenseman Jim Bickel (Fairless Hills, Pa.), defenseman Reece Salas (Hatboro, Pa.), senior midfielder Jack Freeland (Riverton, N.J.), midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington, N.J.), and defenseman Pat O'Neill (Pennsauken, N.J.), prior to this afternoon's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest with Neumann University (8-7, 2-3). The Griffins stepped up their play in the second half, distancing from a 6-5 halftime lead with a 6-1 run to today's 12-6 final. The Red and Gold were led by junior midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) (3 goals, 2 assists) and sophomore attack Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) (4 goals), who combined for nine points and another outstanding performance from junior goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) (19 saves, 3 ground balls).

Griffin Highlights
  • Kish scored the first Gwynedd Mercy University goal of the contest before the 13-minute mark of the first quarter: 1-0 (13:05). Seaman (2-0, 10:00) and sophomore attack Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) (3-0, 8:20) scored soon after to give the Griffins an early 3-0 cushion.
  • With a 21-for-23 (.913) clear performance, 33 ground balls, and four face-off wins (4-for-21, .190) from Langefeld, the Griffins made use of their early advantage.
  • After a shutdown third quarter from the Red and Gold, Kish finished what he started with fourth-quarter scores at 5:28 (11-5) and 1:12 (12-6).
  • Besides Kish and Seaman, Devine (2 goals, 1 assist), junior attack Dominic Romania (Phoenixville, Pa.) (2 goals), and junior attack Richie Hughes (Turversville, N.J.) (2 assists) each recorded multiple points.
  • Devine recorded his fifth straight contest with double digit saves. He has 10 such performances this season.
Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their AEC and regular season schedules on Wednesday, April 24, when they visit Centenary University (N.J.) for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
