Arlington, Va. (4/10/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-7, 1-1 AEC) traveled to Atlantic East Conference (AEC) foe Marymount University (4-9, 1-2 AEC) as the Griffins searched for their first conference win of the 2024 season. Both teams exchanged blows in the first two quarters with the Saints leading Gwynedd Mercy 6-4 halfway through the first half. Starting at 3:54 in the second quarter, the Red and Gold would score five unanswered goals and take a 10-6 lead early in the third quarter. Marymount would not go down without a fight as they would bring the game within two (10-8), but the Griffins prevailed and would go on to win their first conference game of the season with a final score of 17-9. Sophomore attacker Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with a game-high five goals with five points and one ground ball, while his brother junior goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with a career-high - and program record - 26 saves in the win (4-7).
Griffin Highlights:
- Four different Griffins finished with multiple goals including Devine (5), junior midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) (3), sophomore attacker Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) (2), and senior midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington, N.J.) (2).
- While four different Griffins had a multigoal game, five other members of Gwynedd Mercy found the back of the net including, junior defenseman Ryan Wilkins (Galloway, N.J.), junior midfielder Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.), junior attacker Dominic Romania (Phoenixville, Pa.), senior midfielder Jack Freeland (Riverton, N.J.), and short stick defensive midfielder Zac Womer (Gilbertsville, Pa.).
- Both teams combined for 92 shots in the contest, with Marymount University finishing with 50 and Gwynedd Mercy recording 42.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Saturday, April 13, when they visit Immaculata University for a 12:00 p.m. AEC contest.
