Hoffman's First Career Collegiate Knock Brings Home Two In Battle With The Lions

Auburndale, Fl. (3/10/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-5) played an early (9:15 a.m.) contest taking on The College of New Jersey (4-0). An early start did not hinder the Griffins as took an early 1-0 lead over the Lions thanks to an RBI (runs-batted-in) single to left field by junior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) bringing home junior pitcher Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.). After the first inning, however, it would be all The College of New Jersey as they would go on to score 11 unanswered runs and defeat Gwynedd Mercy 11-3.

Griffin Highlights:
  • The red and gold stranded eight baserunners in the match, while the team struck out a season-high 16 times.
  • In the eighth inning, the Griffins would try and start a rally. Senior outfielder Quin Dye (Conshohocken, Pa.), sophomore outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.), and sophomore infielder Dom Gerasimowicz (Pottstown, Pa.) all walked to start the inning and Gwynedd Mercy would have the bases loaded with no outs. Freshman outfielder Edward Hoffman (Levittown, Pa.) pitch hit for Gwynedd Mercy and in his first-ever collegiate plate appearance Hoffman hit a two RBI single to left field. The rally would come to a quick end as the next three Griffins struck out.
  •  Sophomore pitcher Tommy Angelucci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) made his first start of the 2024 season finishing with three innings pitched and a stat line of three hits, three earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts in the loss (0-1).

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their spring trip on Wednesday, March 13, at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Florida, where they will face Farmingdale State College in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
