Second-Half Surge Sends Monks Over Griffins in Danica Strong Foundation Game

Gwynedd Valey, Pa. (3/11/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (0-6) returned back to the Athletic Complex to take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine, after a long four game road trip. With the crowd behind the red and gold the Griffins got off to a fast start scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter. Going into halftime, Gwynedd Mercy was leading the Monks 7-5. In the second half, Gwynedd Mercy struggled to find their offensive game and would only score two goals in the last 30 minutes of the contest. The Griffins would go on to lose the contest 12-9. Junior midfielder Richie Hughes (Turnersville, Pa.) finished with a game-high three goals with three points. 

Griffin Highlights: 

  • Gwynedd Mercy had plenty of extra man opportunities (7). The Griffins were unable to capitalize on most of these opportunities as the team was 2-of-7 (28%) with the extra man advantage. 

  • Senior attack Nick Flamma (Sewell, N.J.) finished with two goals and an assist, while sophomore attack Nick Citrigno (Southampton, Pa.) and junior midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) both finished with a goal and two assists. 

  • Gwynedd Mercy was outshot 43-28, as junior goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with seven saves in the loss (0-6).

 

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wedneday, March 13, when the Griffins host Delaware Valley University for a 4:00 p.m. faceoff.
