Lancaster, Pa. – (2/18/2024) – With the conclusion of the regular and conference seasons, league commissioner Jessica Huntley announced the seeding and schedule of competition for the upcoming
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. Gwynedd Mercy University earned the #2 seed with a 9-3 league record that included a January-27 win at Neumann University (W, 87-79) and AEC season sweeps of Marywood University (W, 99-77 on Jan. 24/W, 91-74 on Feb. 14), Immaculata University (W, 74-58 on Jan. 20/W, 90-64 on Feb. 7), Cabrini University (W, 96-75 on Jan. 6/W, 75-64 on Feb. 3), and Centenary University (NJ) (W, 97-80 on Jan. 10)/W, 92-65 on Jan. 31).
Monday (Feb. 19) night's AEC First Round schedule includes a 7:00 p.m. tipoff between #6 Cabrini University and #3 Marywood University and an 8:00 p.m. tipoff between #5 Immaculata University and Neumann University; both contests will be played at the higher seed. The winner of both First Round contests will advance to the AEC Semifinals; #1 Marymount University will host the lowest remaining seed in a 6:00 p.m. AEC Semifinal on Wednesday, February 21, while #2 Gwynedd Mercy University will host the highest remaining seed in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. The AEC Championship bout scheduled for Saturday, February 24, at the home of the highest remaining seed.
A Gwynedd Mercy University received contributions across the roster to achieve a 16-9 overall record and a 9-3 league standing. Senior guards
Aziz Parker (Westampton, N.J.) (13.9 PPG) and
JoHaan Vinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) (13.8 PPG) were joined in double-digit scoring averages by junior guard
Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) (10.4 PPG). Parker was the Griffins' top perimeter threat with team-highs in three-pointers made (57) and three-point percentage (.422; 57-of-135); he also recorded 123 rebounds (5.3/game), 39 assists, and 22 steals. Meanwhile, Vinson led the Red and Gold in field goals made (114) and free throws made (77); he also recorded 133 rebounds (5.3/game), 27 assists, 15 steals, and four blocks. Stewart offered 10.4 points per game (PPG), while totaling 47 rebounds, a team-high 85 assists, 31 steals, and five blocks. Significant contributions also came from graduate guard
