Dover, Del. - (11/12/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-0) owned a promising 34-32 halftime lead over Delaware Sate University (1-2) in this evening's exhibition against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I member. Unfortunately, the Hornets pedigree showed through in the second half as they held the Griffins to eight baskets (8-of-28, .286) and a pair for free throws (2-of-8, .250) in an eventual 70-54 conclusion. Three Griffins finished in double figures; sophomore forward Justin Savage (Philadelphia, Pa.) was chief among them with 15 points on 7-of-11 (.636) shooting performance. Meanwhile, senior forward Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University kept pace with Delaware State University in the first half and snared their two-point halftime lead on a last-second connection between junior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Savage; 34-32 (0:07).
• The Red and Gold shot 22-of-63 (.349) from the floor and 5-of-12 (.417) from the free throw line.
• The Griffins only turned the ball over 10 times, but trailed the Hornets on the glass by 10 rebounds (35-45).
• Savage added eight rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal to his 15 points.
•  Marable additionally provided three assists, a block, and two steals.
• Graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) was the third Griffin in double figures with 10 points. He also recorded three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
