wynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/19/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-8-2, 1-3 AEC) hosted Atlantic East Conference (AEC) foe Neumann University (7-8-1, 3-1 AEC) riding a season-long four-game losing stream heading into the contest. The Red and Gold controlled play throughout most of the contest, but in the end, it was the Knights that would only tally in the scoring column and sneak away with a 2-0 victory. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a fantastic performance as she battled the sun the entire first half of the contest and finished with five saves in the loss (4-9-4).
Before the contest, the Griffins recognized senior midfielder captain Jordyn Basile (Quakertown, Pa.) and senior forward captain Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) as Gwynedd Mercy celebrated Senior Day and honored the seniors for all their contributions to the Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer Program.
Griffin Highlights:
- Junior forward Natalie Morris (Boyertown, Pa.) had multiple opportunities to bury her sixth goal of the season, but with a little bit of bad luck and great play from the Neumann's keeper, she was held out of the goal column. Morris finished with a game-high three shots.
- The Red and Gold finished with five shots in the first half but were slowed down in the second with only three and were outshot by the Knights 11-8.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to AEC play on Wednesday, October 23 when the Griffins host Marywood University for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
