Arlington, Va. - (10/16/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-7-2, 1-2 AEC) returned to Atlantic East Conference (AEC) play as the Red and Gold traveled down to Marymount University (5-8-2, 3-0 AEC) for a conference faceoff. In last year's contest the Griffins and Saints finished 90 minutes with a 1-1 draw, however this match it was Marymount that would walk away with a 3-1 victory. Senior forward captain Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) netted her seventh goal of the season (80:20) just moments before the end of the game allowing Gwynedd Mercy to not be shutout.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy struggled to find offense all game as the team only registered four shots each half (8), while the Saints finished with 33 shots total.
- Beinlich finished with half of the teams' shots (4), while sophomore midfielder Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Casey Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa.) both recorded two shots each.
- Junior goalkeeper Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) made her eighth start in net, finishing with an impressive nine saves in the loss (1-5-2).
Gwynedd Mercyr returns to AEC play on Saturday, October 19 when the Griffins honor their seniors for Senior Day and host Neumann University for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
