Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (1/23/2024) – Anticipation is at an all-time high as Gwynedd Mercy University gets their first chance to welcome an opponent to the newly constructed Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field on Friday, February 23 (3:00 p.m.), when the Griffins host Washington College (Md.) for their 2024 season opener. It will mark the first time the Red and Gold have played at their home field since April 30, 2022. "We are looking forward to the challenges that the 2024 schedule will bring," stated second-year Head Coach
Joe Brooks. "We open up with seven games at home followed by our trip to Florida, which will be a great test for us before we head back north to begin the AEC schedule. We are excited to get going with this group."

Joe Brooks, Gwynedd Mercy University navigated a road-heavy schedule to a 19-18 overall record and a 6-12 standing in the Atlantic East Conference (AEC).
The February-23 home opener will be the first-ever meeting between Gwynedd Mercy University and Washington College (Md.). The Shoremen were 12-27 in 2023 and won just two games (2-16) in the Centennial Conference. The very next day (Feb. 24, 11:30 a.m. (DH)), the Griffins host Haverford College for their first doubleheader of the 2024 season. The Griffins and Fords last faced off in 2018 with the Haverford College taking the contest by a 10-7 margin. February's early-season schedule continues on February 27 when Coach Brooks leads the Griffin in a 3:30 p.m. game versus his alma mater, Rutgers-Camden.
March opens with pre-spring trip dates with Elmira College (Mar. 2, 11:30 a.m. (DH)) and Clarks Summit University (Mar. 6, 3:00 p.m.). The March-2 contest versus the Soaring Eagles will be a first for the Griffins, who are no stranger with the Defenders. Gwynedd Mercy University and Clarks Summit University faced off twice last year with the Red and Gold getting the best of the Defenders in both March-2 (W, 19-5) and March-29 (W, 23-5 (7)), 2023, contests.
From March 9 to March 16, Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Davenport and Auburndale, Florida, to take part in the annual RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Griffins open their stay on March 9 with a 3:45 p.m. game versus the University of Minnesota Morris (@ Davenport, Fla. - Northeast Regional Park). The spring trip continues with games opposite Muhlenberg College (Mar. 10, 3:30 p.m. @ Davenport, Fla. - Northeast Regional Park), The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) (Mar. 12, 9:15 a.m. @ Auburndale, Fla. - Lake Myrtle Park), Farmingdale State College (Mar. 13, 5:30 p.m. @ Davenport, Fla. - Northeast Regional Park), the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) (Mar. 15, 1:00 p.m. @ Auburndale, Fla. - Lake Myrtle Park), and Keystone College (Mar. 16, 9:15 a.m. @ Auburndale, Fla. - Lake Myrtle Park). The Griffins and Cougars will meet for the first time on March 9, while the Red and Gold will look to avenge 2020 losses to the Mules (L, 4-6 on Feb. 22) and the Lions (L, 7-8 on Mar. 9) before squaring off against the Rams on March 13. Gwynedd Mercy University last played the Tigers in 2013 (L, 3-4 on Mar. 1) and the Giants in 2018 (L, 2-4 on May 12.).
The Griffins return home March 19 as they welcome Stockton University to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field for a 3:00 p.m. contest. The two teams will meet for the first time since 2003 (Apr. 1), when Gwynedd Mercy University defeated the Osprey by 11-5 final.
The Red and Gold open their AEC season with their next pitch, when they host Centenary University (NJ) for a 3:00 p.m. contest on March 22. The following day (Mar. 23), Gwynedd Mercy University brings the Cyclones back to campus for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Griffins went 2-1 against Centenary University last season, losing the single home contest 17-11 (Apr. 21) and sweeping the road doubleheader with wins of 4-2 and 3-1 (Apr. 22).
Gwynedd Mercy University hosts Ursinus College (Mar. 26, 3:30 p.m.), travels to Kean University (Mar. 28, 3:00 p.m.), and hosts Penn State Abington (Apr. 3, 3:30 p.m.), before resuming their AEC schedule with a trip to Cabrini University (Apr. 5, 3:00 p.m./Apr. 6, 12:00 p.m. (DH)) for the first of three. The Griffins last met the Bears in 2019 (L, 5-7 on Apr. 11), the Cougars in 2022 (L, 1-5 on Feb. 19), and the Nittany Lions in 2023 when a four runs-batted-in (RBI) from junior utility
Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) helped lead the Red and Gold to 21-8 (7 inn.) victory over Penn State Abington (Apr. 26).
In 2023, Gwynedd Mercy University was 1-2 in a late-season series with Cabrini University; the Griffins lost the single game to the Cavaliers by a 19-3 (May 5) spread, before splitting the doubleheader (May 6) with a 4-2 win in the third game. After facing the Cabrini University for the last time in the regular season, the Red and Gold will host Lancaster Bible College (Apr. 9, 3:30 p.m.) and Marymount University (Apr. 12, 3:00 p.m./Apr. 13, 12:00 p.m. (DH)). April 9 will be the first-ever contest against the Chargers, while Gwynedd Mercy University was 1-2 versus the Saints last season. The Griffins lost the single road contest (L, 1-8 on Mar. 25) and split the doubleheader with a 5-3 (Mar. 26) win in the first game.
The final few weeks of the regular season will be a sprint to the finish line as Gwynedd Mercy University hosts 309-rival Arcadia University (Apr. 16, 3:30 p.m.) and Immaculata University (Apr. 19, 3:00 p.m./Apr. 20, 12:00 p.m. (DH)), before traveling to Cairn University (Apr. 23, 3:30 p.m.), a three-game series with Marywood University (Apr. 26, 3:00 p.m./Apr. 27, 12:00 p.m. (DH)), a home game versus Lehman College (Apr. 30, 3:00 p.m.), and a three-game, regular-season finale at Neumann University (May 3, 3:00 p.m./May 4, 12:00 p.m. (DH)). The Griffins last battled the Knights to a 18-6 loss in 2017 (May 2) and the Highlanders to a 15-11 loss in 2022 (Apr. 21), while the April-30 contest with the Lightning will be a first-ever meeting. Gwynedd Mercy University was 2-1 versus Marywood University and 0-3 versus Neumann University in 2023; the Griffins swept the doubleheader against the Pacers (W, 2-0/W, 13-3 on Apr. 11), but were unable to break the Knights' defense (L, 7-8 (10) on Apr. 14/L, 2-7 and L, 5-6 on Apr. 16).
The 2024 AEC Baseball Championship Tournament is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 8, with possible semifinal and championship dates respectively marked for Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11.
