Griffins Start 2023 AEC Play With Loss to Saints

Arlington, Va. - (9/30/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-4-3, 0-1) traveled to Marymount University (6-4-1, 1-0) for their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) matchup of the 2023 season. Coming into the 2023 season the Saints were favored to win the conference in the AEC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, while the Griffins finished last in the poll. After today's 3-0 defeat, Gwynedd Mercy will look to dig deep in themselves to prove the doubters wrong. 
 
Griffin Highlights: 
  • Graduate goalkeeper captain John Wagner (Phoenixville, Pa.) was busy in the net today finishing with a season-high ten saves on 13 shots. 
  • The Griffins struggled in the offensive zone as they put little pressure on the Saints as they were outshot 25-6.
  • Senior midfielder captain Mike Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a team-high two shots, while graduate forward captain Evan Kirby (Bensalem, Pa.) and graduate midfielder captain Hugh Lynch (Philadelphia, Pa.) both finished with a shot apiece. 
 
Next, Gwynedd Mercy University will take on non-conference opponent Delaware Valley University on Monday, October 2, at the Athletic Complex for a 7:00 p.m. start.
