Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/28/2023) -  Gwynedd Mercy University (4-7) finished a four-game homestand with this evening's match versus Cairn University (6-5). The Highlanders took the first two sets by 25-20 finals, but in different fashions as they sprinted out to an 8-2 lead to grab the edge in the first set and broke away from the Griffins late in the second. In the third set, the Griffins controlled a 19-16 lead before a late rally precipitated the 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) Highlander victory.

Griffin Highlights

• Senior middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) hit .478 (11K-0E-23TA) and registered a team-high 11 kills without error.
• Her efficiency was complimented by a .368 (8K-1E-19TA) hitting performance from junior middle blocker Lexi Lane (Frederick, Colo.), who recorded a season-high eight kills in addition to her block assist.
• Senior outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) provided nine kills and three digs.
• Sophomore setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) feed the Griffin offense with 34 assists. She also offered a kill and a block assist.
• Junior libero Maddie Stancil (Lincoln University, Pa.) captained the Gwynedd Mercy University defense with 20 digs. She also scored one of the three Red and Gold aces.
• The Griffins hit their best in the second set; .125 (11K-6E-40TA) and held the Highlanders to their worst hitting performance in the third set; .059 (6K-4E-34TA).

Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Albright College on Saturday, September 30, for a tri-match that includes the hosting Lions and Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The Griffins face the Lions at 11:00 a.m. and the Nittany Lions at 1:00 p.m.
