Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/20/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-5) made short work of Bryn Athyn College in tonight's match as it took the Griffins less than an hour to defeat the Lions by a 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-13) measure. Senior outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) was lethal with a dozen (12) kills on a .333 (12K-4E-24TA) hitting percentage; she also recorded an ace and a block assist for a season-high 13.5 points. Fellow senior, middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) was a factor as well with 11.5 points on six kills, a block assist, and five of the Griffins' 12 aces.

Griffin Highlights

• Sophomore defensive specialist Amanda Lopez (Houston, Texas) served Gwynedd Mercy University out to an early 10-4 advantage. Later series of Brown serves advanced the Griffins' position to 21-8 before an eventual 25-11 conclusion.
• The second set moved even quicker as Gwynedd Mercy University forced a Bryn Athyn College timeout at 12-4 and lead by as many as 13 points, 20-7, prior to securing a 25-9 victory.
• The Lions kept the third set tight until Purnell and Brown served on back-to-back three point runs; 21-12. Afterwards, a pair of kills from freshman outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.), an ace from freshman defensive specialist Danika Lewis (Coopersburg, Pa.), and a Lion miscues ended the set on a 25-13 spread.
• Gwynedd Mercy University hit .262 (32K-10E-84TA) for the match and had their most success in the second set with a .433 (15K-2E-30TA) success rate.
• Sophomore setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) directed the Griffin offense with 29 assists. She also recorded an ace, a block assist, and three digs.
• Senior libero Maddie Stancil (Lincoln University, Pa.) led the defense with 17 digs. She also recorded a kill, an assist, and an ace.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, with a 7:00 p.m. match versus Moravian University.
