Etter's Eight Points Lead Griffins in Loss at Lancaster Bible College

Lancaster, Pa. - (9/14/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-3) took to the court for the first time in a week as they traveled to Lancaster Bible College (3-3) for this evening's engagement. The Griffins had their most success in the opening set where they hit a match-best .147 (8K-3E-34TA), but eventually dropped a see-saw battle that finished in the home team's favor; 25-23. The Chargers used the momentum to complete the sweep with concluding wins of 25-16 and 25-14; 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 25-14). 

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University led the opening set by as many as three points on a couple occasions; 14-11 and 16-13.
  • On defense, the Griffins were aggressive at the net as they totaled six team blocks; senior middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.), junior middle blocker Lexi Lane (Frederick, Colo.), and sophomore right side Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded three block assists apiece.
  • Freshman outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) added an assist, an ace, two block assists, and five digs to her team-high six kills.
  • Sophomore setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) offered 11 assists, an ace, and three digs to the Griffin effort.
  • Senior outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) (12) and junior libero Maddie Stancil (Lincoln University, Pa.) (10) combined for 22 of the Griffins' 39 digs.
Gwynedd Mercy University competes next on Saturday, September 16, when they travel to Washington, DC, to face Eastern Mennonite University and host, Catholic University in respective 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. tri-match contests.
