First Half Scores Send #16 Cavaliers Past Griffins in AEC Regular Season Finale

Radnor, Pa. - (4/26/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-8, 5-1) closed their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) and regular season schedules with today's contest at Cabrini University (12-5, 6-0). There, the Cavaliers netted 10 goals in both the first and second quarters to establish a 20-3 halftime lead in an eventual 27-9. Junior attack Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) was one of four Griffins to score twice and he led the team with five points (2 goals, 3 assists).

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University totaled 21 shots, 25 ground balls, and three caused turnovers while successfully clearing the ball on 16-of-23 (.696) attempts. They were 1-of-4 (.250) on the man-up and won seven of 39 face-offs (7-of-39, .179).
  • In addition to Eide, sophomore midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.), junior midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington, N.J.), and sophomore attack Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.) each scored two goals. Kish finished with four points (2 goals, 2 assists) and two ground balls, while Hughes finished with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and a ground ball.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) recorded a majority of the Griffins' 23 saves with 14 over the final 43:31. He also recovered a team-high five ground balls.
With a 5-1 AEC record, Gwynedd Mercy University has secured the #2 seed for the upcoming league championship tournament and will host an AEC Semifinal contest at the Athletic Complex on Wednesday, May 3.
