Victory! Eide Overtime Score Clinches Home Opener Versus Bison

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/15/2023) - Junior Shane Langefeld (Hainesport, N.J.) won the overtime face-off and collected the following ground ball to give Gwynedd Mercy University (1-4) the only extra possession they needed to win this afternoon's home opener; 10-9. After the face-off, a Griffin timeout set the play and a Nichols College (5-2) foul gave junior attack Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) a second look at the last shot of the affair. Freshman attack Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) led the Gwynedd Mercy University offense with four points (1 goal, 3 assists), while junior defenseman Sammy Summer (Yardley, Pa.) highlighted the back line with two points (1 goal, 1 assist), two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University matched Nichols College's shots on goals (23-23) despite a 41-34 shooting deficit.
  • The Griffins were successful on 18-of-24 (.750) clear attempts and 10-of-23 (.435) face-offs.
  • Gwynedd Mercy University led for most of the first half as they outscored the Bison 4-2 in the first frame and 3-1 in the second; 7-3.
  • A Nichols College run that spanned the late third quarter (9:23, 3:52, 2:39) and early fourth quarter (13:19, 10:10) was thwarted by a spirited connection between Seaman and junior midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) that regained the Griffins a one-goal edge, 9-8, with 7:52 remaining in the affair.
  • Eide added two assists to his game-winner. He set up back-to-back second-quarter goals with passes to junior attack Tyler Long (Downingtown, Pa.) (6-3, 0:32) and junior midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington, N.J.) (7-3, 0:06).
  • Kish totaled two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and two ground balls.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) earned the win (1-1) with 14 saves and four ground balls.
