Gwynedd Valley, PA - (2/18/22) - The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Lacrosse Team defeats King's College in a close 9-7 contest on Saturday afternoon to open up the 2023 season.

Highlights:

• Sophomore attacker, Hailey Bloom, sparked the Griffin offense and led the game with 5 points (4 goals, 1 assist).
• Senior goalkeeper, Reilly Owens, contributed 6 groundballs, 3 caused turnovers, and seven saves in a dominant defensive show.
• Sophomore midfielder, Cheyenne Avellino, played an aggressive game on both sides of the ball resulting in 4 caused turnovers and 2 goals.
• Sophomore midfielder, Alysia Collins, scooped up 5 groundballs in crucial situations to win possession for the Griffs.
• The score stayed even throughout the game. The Griffs put the first point on the board just 13 seconds into the contest, but the Monarchs answered back a few minutes later.  The Griffins were up by 1 (6-5) at the end of the half and held the Monarchs to just 2 total goals in the second half.  

The Griffs will be back in action this Wednesday when they host Alvernia for a 4pm start.
