Aziz Parker (Westampton, N.J.) outscored Saint Elizabeth University (4-7) by a 15-12 (4:35) measure in the opening 15 minutes and finished with a perfect first half - 5-of-5 (1.000) from the field and 2-of-2 (1.000) from the free throw line - as Gwynedd Mercy University (5-6) posted a 35-20 intermission edge on the Eagles. Unfortunately, the Red and Gold ended up needing the cushion with Saint Elizabeth University rallying from a 19-point deficit, 42-23 (16:14), in a 73-69 Griffin victory. Parker finished with a season-high 23 points with five three-point baskets (5-of-6, .833) in an 8-of-11 (.727) shooting performance that came with two free throws, three rebounds, and an assist.
Griffin Highlights
- A Parker three pushed Gwynedd Mercy University's early lead to double digits, 16-6 (14:25), five minutes into the contest and his fastbreak layup maxed out the lead at 18 points, 30-12, with 4:35 left to play in the first half.
- As impressive as Parker was in the opening period, the Red and Gold defense was just as noteworthy as the Griffins held Saint Elizabeth University to a 7-of-33 (.212) shooting performance and forced 11 Eagle turnovers.
- Senior guard JoHaan Vinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) joined Parker in double figures with 13 points. He also recorded three rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
- Junior guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) played well on both sides of the ball with four points, four rebounds, six assists, a block, and three steals.
- Junior forward Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.) was a factor as well with eight points and a team-high five rebounds.
