Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/24/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University goals came early and often in this afternoon's contest versus Bryn Athyn College as hat tricks from graduate forward Caitlyn Thornton (Ivyland, Pa.) (4:37, 8:15, 35:44) and freshman forward Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) accounted for half of the Griffins' scores in a 12-0 shutout of the Lions. Gwynedd Mercy University out shot Bryn Athyn College by a 27-0 margin and held a 13-0 advantage in penalty corners. Thornton totaled four shots and a team-high seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) as she added an assist on a first-quarter score from sophomore forward Amber Sims (Perkasie, Pa.) (3-0, 7:24). In goal, sophomore Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) recorded her second shut out and third win (3-4) of the season without recording a save.

Gwynedd Mercy University (3-4) controlled the ball for much of the first quarter and frequently found the back of the cage as six unanswered goals came from Thornton (4:37, 8:15), senior defender Kaci Murray (Chalfont, Pa.) (5:10), Sims (7:24), senior midfielder Haley Didinger (Berlin, N.J.) (12:27), senior midfielder Victoria Poust (Warminster, Pa.) (14:26). Sophomore forward Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor, N.J.) started off the second-quarter scoring (7-0, 16:29) as the Griffins continued their overrun of Bryn Athyn College (0-5) with three second quarter scores (9-0, 26:15) and three third quarter scores; 12-0 (38:49). Reed scored three of those six goals and Gwynedd Mercy University spent most of the fourth quarter playing keep away.

Sims took a team-high five shots and was one of seven Griffins to record at least two points in the contest. Thornton (3 goals, 1 assist), Reed (3 goals), Murray (1 goal, 1 assist), Poust (1 goal, 1 assist), Avellino (1 goal, 1 assist), Didinger (1 goal), and senior defender Alexis Schambers (West Chester, Pa.) (1 goal, 1 assist) were the others. Junior forward Olivia Headley (Langhorne, Pa.) (Reed, 25:55) and sophomore forward Ashley Berry (Philadelphia, Pa.) (Avellino, 16:29) offered assists on second quarter scores.
