Gwynedd Mercy University Opens AEC Season with Triumph at Centenary University

Hackettstown, N.J. - (4/6/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-7, 1-0) scored the first 19 goals of the contest in today's 24-2 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) triumph at Centenary University (1-5, 0-3). The league victory included many impressive efforts including seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) from sophomore midfielder Tyler Long (Downingtown, Pa.) and a pair of five-point performances from senior attack Cameron Ostroff (Wilmington, Del.) (2 goals, 3 assists) and freshman attack Lane Yergey (Boyertown, Pa.) (4 goals, assist). Senior goalkeeper Aubron Swartley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) made six saves and recovered a ground ball in his third victory (3-6) of the season.

Gwynedd Mercy University scored the last two of their eight first-quarter goals on the man-up thanks to tallies from Ostroff (7-0, 2:21) and sophomore attack Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) (8-0, 0:53); 8-0. The Griffin advantage grew to 14-0 (0:07) by halftime and 19-0 (1:27) for the fourth-quarter break. Centenary University broke the Griffin shutout with the first goal of the final frame; 19-1 (12:33). Afterwards, senior attack Will Allen (Wilmington, Del.) captained the final minutes of the affair with an assist to classmate John McCreary (Furlong, Pa.) at 12:00 (20-1) and the first goal of his collegiate career at 3:59 (23-2).

Freshman midfielder Ian Kish (Easton, Pa.) was a help to the success of Long, Ostroff, and Yergey with two assists and eight ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Nick Flamma (Sewell, N.J.) offered two goals and two ground balls, while junior defenseman Danny Holden (Claymont, Del.) provided a ground ball and three caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Matt Fultz (Bellefonte, Pa.) also recorded the first goal of his collegiate career with 12:29 remaining in the third quarter (15-0).He recovered four ground balls as well.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Saturday, April 9, when they host Immaculata University for a 12:00 p.m. Senior Day contest.
