Campbell Homer Ignites Griffins for AEC Win at Neumann University

Aston, Pa. - (4/14/2022) - Neumann University (8-15, 4-6) scored a run in their first at-bat of this afternoon's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) affair, but a second-inning solo home run from senior catcher Nate Campbell (Royersford, Pa.) was the first of eight straight Gwynedd Mercy University (12-15, 5-5) runs between the second (2-1), third (4-1), and fifth (8-1) innings. In the later frames, the Knights scored two runs in the sixth and a run apiece in the seven, eighth, and ninth innings, while the Griffins followed up a seventh-inning run with a pair of ninth-inning tallies. The result was a 11-6 AEC victory for Gwynedd Mercy University, who has now won three straight league games.

Campbell (2-for-6, HR, R, RBI) was one of six Griffins to record multiple hits. Senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI) and senior designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) (3-for-4, BB, R, RBI) headlined the group with three hits apiece. Senior right fielder T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) was the only Griffin to knock in multiple runs; he was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two runs-batted-in (RBI), a hit-by-pitch, and a stolen base. Freshman Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) earned his fourth win (4-1) of the season, holding Neumann University to one earned run on three hits and five walks. He struck out five Knights in the first 6,1 innings of the contest. Sophomore Joe Golden (Churchville, Pa.) recorded his first career save with the game's final out.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the GMercyU Baseball Field on Monday, April 18, to host Neumann University for a 12:00 p.m. AEC doubleheader.
