Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/18/2022) - Sixth-inning singles from junior first baseman Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.), senior catcher Nate Campbell (Royersford, Pa.), and freshman shortstop Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) followed a lead-off double from senior designated player Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.); the result was a four-run inning that propelled Gwynedd Mercy University (13-15, 6-5) for a 12-10 victory over Neumann University (8-16, 4-7). The Griffins were leading the second game of today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) doubleheader by a 6-2 margin when it was called due to rain after the fifth inning. Just like the opener, both sides scored a pair of early runs. In the fourth inning, Gwynedd Mercy University took the advantage with back-to-back run-scoring singles from freshman center fielder Barry Walker (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) and senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.), a balk, and a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.).

Martell knocked in three runs in the the opener with a third-inning, three-run double. He was 2-for-3 with two runs and a run-batted-in (RBI) in game two. Senior left fielder Brett Swire (Boyertown, Pa.) had a good day as well; he was 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI in the opener thanks to a pair of doubles and his first collegiate home run. He is 1-for-3 with a run in game two. Sophomore Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) recorded his second save (2) with a scoreless seventh inning (1.0 IP, 2 BB). Collins earned his first win (1-0) of the season in game two; he held the Knights to two runs on five hits and two walks in the first five innings, while striking out five.

Gwynedd Mercy University and Neumann University will continue the second game of today's AEC twin bill at a date and time yet to be determined. The Griffins are scheduled to play next on Thursday, April 21, when they visit Cairn University for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
