Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/13/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-9, 1-2) led Neumann University (9-5, 2-1) 3-2 (1:33) at the end of the first quarter thanks to a pair of spirited scores (3:55, 3:10) from sophomore Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) and a connection from sophomore midfielder Tyler Long (Downingtown, Pa.) to senior attack John McCreary (Furlong, Pa.). Unfortunately, the Knights opened the second quarter with five unanswered goals before securing an 8-4 halftime advantage. Neumann University scored the first two goals of the third quarter, expanding their lead to 10-4 (5:43). But the Griffins were not finished as a pair of goals from sophomore midfielder Nick Flamma (Sewell, N.J.) to Long (2:11, 1:30) and another from Eide to sophomore midfielder GianLuca Lockhart (Turnersville, N.J.) brought them within three scores; 10-7 (0:09) at the close of the third frame. In the fourth, an early Knight tally made the difference four scores, 11-7 (10:22), and there it remained to the final horn.

Eide (2 goals, assist), Long (2 goals, assist), and Flamma (goal, 2 assists) totaled three points apiece; the first added four ground balls and a caused turnover to his offensive production. Junior defense Sam Flamma (Sewell, N.J.) headlined the Griffin backfield with two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore face-off Evan Courts (Bellefonte, Pa.) won 7-of-13 draws and recovered two ground balls for Gwynedd Mercy University. In goal, senior Aubron Swartley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) recorded 15 saves and a ground ball in the loss (3-8).

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule next Wednesday, April 20, when they visit Marywood University for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
