Collins and Brasier are Heroes in AEC Doubleheader Sweep of Cyclones

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/11/2022) - With the sun shining and the temperature above 55 degrees, Gwynedd Mercy University (11-15, 4-5) was eager to take the field for today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) doubleheader with Centenary University. The Griffins atoned for Friday's loss with a pair of victories. In the first senior designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) ignited the Griffins for a decisive, four-run fifth inning and an 8-2 victory with the first home run of his collegiate career. And in the second, Brasier kept an extra-inning game alive with an 11th-inning home run, 7-7, before winning it with a walk-off single to left field; 8-7. Junior Trey Livingstone (Pennsburg, Pa.) earned the win (2-2) in opener, allowing two unearned runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out six. In game two, sophomore Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) earned the win (3-1) in 5.2 innings of relief work. He held the Cyclones to an unearned run on four hits and a walk, while striking out six.

Collins (1-for-3, R, 3 RBI) supported his long ball with a successful squeeze play in his sixth-inning at-bat of game one. Senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) (2-for-3, R) and senior shortstop Rob Bailey (Abington, Pa.) (2-for-4, R, RBI) both recorded multiple hits, while junior third baseman Noah Andress (Levittown, Pa.) knocked in two fifth-inning runs with a clutch single back through the box.

In game two, Brasier was 3-for-6 with a walk, two runs, and two runs-batted-in (RBI). Andress continued a good afternoon with two RBI on a ground-out to short in the second inning and the eight-inning, game-tying RBI with a single to center field. Senior center fielder Jack Jamison (Fort Washington, Pa.) was a spark plug with a 1-for-4 effort that came with a run and a pair of RBI with a single in the second and a grounder to second in the sixth.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Thursday, April 14, when they visit Neumann University for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
