Danbury, Conn. – (3/2/2022) – Head Coach John Baron and the Gwynedd Mercy University men's basketball team will have one last chance at glory this season, as the Griffins were selected as the #8 seed in the 2021-2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. The seeding awards Gwynedd Mercy University a home game versus #9 William Paterson University today, Wednesday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m, with subsequent rounds taking place March 4 through March 6 at Rutgers University - Newark.

William Paterson University is currently 12-12 overall and finished their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) season with a 9-9 record that earned them the #5 seed in the league's championship tournament. The Patriots lost to #4 Montclair State University in the opening round of postseason play by a 71-66 final. During the 2021-2022 season, William Paterson University was led by All-NJAC First Teamer, graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J.), who averaged a team-high 18.0 points in excess of 101 rebounds (4.8/game), 75 assists, four blocks, and 53 steals.
 
At 15-10 overall and 7-5 in the Atlantic East Conference, Gwynedd Mercy University earned the #3 seed in the 2021-2022 AEC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. The Griffins owned a 58-53 (4:04) lead over #6 Centenary University (11-12) with a little more than four minutes remaining in the quarterfinal. Unfortunately, the Cyclones outscored the Griffins 10-5 in those final four minutes, rallying for a 62-58 (1:01) lead before having to hold the home team off in the final seconds of a 66-63 (0:16) final. Graduate guard Matt O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit a set of free throws to cut Centenary University's late lead to one point, 64-63 (0:16) and he finished as Gwynedd Mercy University's leading scorer with 16 points. He also recorded a rebound and two assists. Senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) was the only other Griffin in double figures; he scored a dozen (12) points in addition to grabbing seven rebounds, making two assists, and a steal.
 
Jones garnered All-AEC Second Team honors as the league's January-31 Defensive Player of the Week and a Top-10 producer in points (7^th, 321), points per game (PPG) (10^th, 12.8), defensive rebounds (9^th, 123), free throws made (8^th, 68), free throw attempts (7^th, 96), free throw percentage (7^th, .708), three pointers made (T10^th, 35), and steals (10^th , 32). He also recorded 46 assists and a pair of blocks.
